While hanging out I ran into this picture, which I must say, fits my current issue!!! I’m realizing that for many of lives problems, it can be dealt with by experiencing a thorough and strong study of God’s Word!!! My issues with creativity, purpose, service, the Bible has the answers!!! The question is, will we seek His word!!?

If Life Was Like A DVD!

December 23, 2011 — Leave a comment

Every year I think about this concept as we draw closer to the New Year! What if my life was on a DVD and the age you are counts as the number of seasons you have been alive (for me it would be season 27)? What would be on your DVD of life? Did you have the kind of year that would make you hit the “replay” or “scene loop” button to relive that awesome moment over and over? Or, do you have scenes from this year that you would rather fast-forward across? You might even have moments you would rather cut out…maybe even whole episodes!!!

Look on the bright side, you have the opportunity to include multiple bonus options on your DVD of life! You have the commentary track for each episode of life , you can add extras such as memories or behind the scenes of your life and people you know and love! You might even be bold enough to include bloopers and outtakes.

The bad news, some of us may try to take the whole DVD back…I say hang on to it. You may get tired of it, but someone else may be willing to watch it for the first, and maybe, even a second and third time. Your life is a moving storyline with a script that’s already written. The DVD is on constant release (for some of us its only a local release, for others, its national or international). The question is are you willing to give your DVD of life the best quality living that people could ever see.

In the latest "Kid Eccentric" comic, 11-year-old Ken learns the meaning of Christmas....the hard way! "Kid Eccentric" by Kendall Lyons (c) 2011

Ken of "Kid Eccentric" talking with Mike and Dylan about "fasting" in this latest strip, "Kid Eccentric" by Kendall Lyons (c) 2011

A local church whom our church worships with from time to time invited us to participate in a 21 day fast. The fast will start on January 1st an go on for 21 straight days. I began reading through Isaiah 58 and studying both this text and several other biblical resources on Fasting. Needless to say, it is a very serious thing to do, and more importantly, it is needed from time to time in order to cut unnecessary activities off and spend time with God!

I was inspired to draw about it in comic strip form and I really had to think about what fasting for 21 days at least would mean.

I know for sure I intend to spend 21 days away from my Satellite TV, Facebook, Twitter, and YES, the XBOX and other little things that tend to make my schedule tighter than what it should. I also intend on doing some major changes with regards to my diet…at least exercise more. This particularly means no soda, little to no coffee and more water intake.

Essentially, I am cutting down on the things that tend to rob my time from spending time in prayer, reaading and studying and more. I also am hoping and praying that I find direction with regards to the direction of our youth department, my personal goals concerning job versus vocation and the breaking of bad habits.

Needless to say, I do not intend on updating my blog with 24/7 “breaking news” on fasting, which if you read Matthew 6:16-18, doing such a thing would be inappropriate. While I intend to stay off the internet 10 times more than what I normally do, I refuse to those kind of updates. However, should God show me some things via through the scriptures and through the experience something mind-blowing (which I trust He will), I most certainly will report that!

This fasting idea couldn’t have come in a better time. I definitely needed to detox myself mentally, physically and spiritually. Its been a very long and rough year and like so many others, while I am thankful that I made it this far, I can’t wait to start things on a newer and better footing.

Don’t let the title of this blog fool you though. The point I know I’m making is this…are you willing to give up the very things that you like or love the most to draw closer to God!?
