Earlier this week I thought of something random….didn’t Calvin from “Calvin & Hobbes” in a Sunday strip fly an F-16, launch a missile and blow his school up, leaving nothing but a giant crater!?
Yes…yes he did….and you know what, it was AWESOME!
Calvin & Hobbes For The Win!!!
Don’t worry, Calvin was only daydreaming. He knew he had to go to school. He just hated school, period!
Now hold on, before you go calling me something bad, like a terrorist or something, please understand!! At the time the strip was drawn, it was a very different period of time for America, for children and for the world in general!
When I was 10, I always had a similar daydream pop into my head!
The school bell would ring. Class would be over. All the kids would rush out of the classroom and into the hallways. There I was with my backpack, walking down the hallway and playing background music to an action movie or a video game in my head. I pretended that I could hear a countdown ticking down the number of seconds I had before I had to evacuate. I finally make it to the front door. I walk up to the side walk.
Then…KABOOM!!!! Debris is flying and smoke is filling the air but I miraculously made it. No one was hurt and my mission to survive school for that day was completed successfully!
When would the next mission be…the very next day!
We have a choice to do a lot like Calvin. We can either daydream or we can just deal with our reality and make good things happen for ourselves as well as others.
But this is not a plea to stop daydreaming! Besides, its fun! Its even helpful in some ways for productivity and creativity. Just make sure that your dream doesn’t involve destroying anything like people or places, or maybe in your case, like relationships and goals and opportunities.

Everything Calvin did was awesome
